My friend Dan called me one day with urgency in his voice: "You better get down here and paint the Landmark because they're removing it from the Boneyard today." I dashed out the door, full of fond memories of the Landmark. This ended up being one of the easiest and quickest paintings I’ve ever done there, and I had just finished when the crew arrived to remove it. I watched as they lifted it away, captivated by the scene. For a day or so, I even considered cutting the sign out of my composition and lifting it into the sky portion of the painting, as if watching it soar. The sign was fully repaired and now resides on Paradise Road, standing where the Landmark once proudly stood. It’s moments like these that remind me of the importance of rescuing and preserving Las Vegas history.
