What a beautiful sign this was. I could easily do a series on just a handful of signs from the Boneyard, and this would be one of them. Accessing signs was often tricky—I had to find small niches to crawl into or sit on to create my compositions. My gear was simple: a backpack and a small folding stool. I usually painted in the early morning hours, seeking shade to capture the light. This sign had such a feminine quality, not only in its colors but also in its soft, gentle shapes. I’m delighted they chose this over a pink flamingo! My friend Dan humorously calls it the "Flaming O."
