The Pool King was never part of the Strip or its casinos—he stood on Charleston Avenue and was crafted by a sculptor named Pendergrass. Towering over many of the neon signs in the Boneyard, he was an impressive figure that couldn’t be ignored. I loved the variety of fonts and interrupted words that played out in the compositions. Behind the King (not Elvis) are glimpses of the Silver Slipper, pieces of the Horseshoe, and the Lone Palm.
