This is one of the first paintings I created at the Neon Boneyard, where I began making compositions from whatever lay in front of me. In this piece, I combined the 'e' and 'l' from the City Center Hotel sign with the 'g' and 'o' from the Golden Nugget, weaving together fragments of two iconic places into a single composition.
The City Center Hotel was once a modest establishment on the Las Vegas Strip, offering a more low-key alternative to the glitzier casinos. Though the original hotel is no longer standing, its legacy lives on in the name of the massive CityCenter complex that now occupies its space. In keeping with the spirit of honoring its history, the new development retained the City Center name, offering a subtle nod to the past amidst the sleek, modern structures of today’s Strip. This continuity speaks to the way Las Vegas evolves while still holding on to pieces of its storied past.
